Every detail matters to God

It’s easy to feel sometimes as if the details of our lives are too small to worry God with. He has the whole universe to sustain so why bother him with my little struggles, hopes and fears?

But I love the fact that Jesus cared for every detail in people's lives. It was he who said ‘Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.’ (Matthew 10:29) Jesus knew that his Father cared and had hold of even these tiniest of birds. Not one of them was too small for him to see and certainly each one of us, and the tiny things that make up our lives, are all seen by him too.

I feel today it’s important we grasp how wide and long and high and deep his love is for us. Maybe you are feeling invisible, as if you just don’t matter enough for those around you to see, and certainly not for God to see? He wants to say to you today ‘Beloved child, you matter to me 100%.  I know your thoughts before you know them yourself. I know when you sit and when you rise. I know what you are going to say before you even say it. You are always the centre of my focus, because I love you.’ (based on Psalm 139).

Yesterday this was brought home to me afresh by seeing how Father God worked through some seemingly disconnected details to bring about something lovely. Firstly, on Saturday when Marilyn and I were doing an in-person event, one of those attending came up at the end and gave us a cake. We were surprised as it wasn’t typical of gifts we might receive but we thought it was a sweet thing to do. The next day, because I’d forgotten to ask for a lift, we didn’t get to church so we were a bit regretful that we hadn’t seen our church family. On Monday morning we decided to post on WhatsApp to say we would be in a café in our town at 12 if anyone wanted to join us for lunch. A few minutes later, a lady replied to say that her plans for the day before had changed and as a result she had lots of lunchy type food so would we like to go to hers instead? That seemed lovely, so we and one or two agreed. Just before we left I sensed the Lord reminding me about the cake we’d been given and encouraging me to take it. It was only small, so I felt hesitant but popped it in my bag. When we arrived a friend was there who had just celebrated her special birthday. We had a spontaneous little party for her and the food our friend had was perfect. But she had no cake so when I got out mine, it was perfect for us to put a candle on for us to sing happy birthday! I couldn’t believe how intricately all the details had been woven together to create a lovely time of friendship and fun for all.

God cares for you with such love. Nothing is hidden from his sight and he loves to lavish his love on us every day. If you’ve felt invisible, why not say to the Lord,

‘Thank you Lord, that every detail of my life is known to you. I choose to let go of my fear that my concerns are too small for you to care about. I trust afresh that I matter to you and in your love you want to weave together every detail and circumstance to bring about beautiful things for me. I love you dear Father, amen.

Repairers and restorers

I was reading Isaiah 61:1-4 and was really struck by the words in verse 4: They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated. They will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

As Christians we can be blasé at times and even imply that it’s wrong to mourn as it shows lack of faith.
