I was reflecting on this verse from Zechariah 9:17 For how great is his goodness and how great his beauty and thought how important and life giving it is to fix our minds on the Lord’s beauty and goodness in our daily lives. So many things reveal his beauty and we can so easily forget why we love him. Fixing our minds and hearts on him helps us to grow in our faith and trust. Using these thoughts, a group of us jointly wrote this beautiful psalm drawing out just a glimpse of the things that make him beautiful and cause us to love him. It ended with some simple yet profound prayers of what we long for him to do.
May you all be blessed and inspired as you read this.
You are beautiful
The sun shining on dew-soaked leaves; tiny flowers pushing undaunted through concrete; a wounded person hidden and crying, suddenly smiling as you touch her heart with your love. A baby snuggled into his mother’s breast, sleepy, adoring. A group of strangers worshipping and loving you together. These things reveal your beauty.
You are beautiful
The sun sparkling on the water, the birds building their nests in the cliffs; flames dancing in the fireplace, the harmony of musical notes. These things reveal your beauty.
You are beautiful
Seeing a baby grow and develop. The sunset in the evening; the glory of your earth – the sea, sky, sand and mountains; the greenness of the grass after rain. These things reveal your beauty.
You are beautiful
You are faithful and your love is beyond measure.
I long to trust you, please help me, you always do. Your creation is ever powerful revealing your beauty.
You are beautiful Lord Jesus in every way
You are perfect, pure, loving and gentle.
All your people adore your beauty forever.
We gaze, fixing our eyes on the One who loves us.
The cross was not beautiful but the love that drew you there was so beautiful.
I love you Lord because you have turned my life around so deeply. Your love has healed my heart and set me free. Your love is so constant and enduring and even when I let you down you still love me and call me your beloved. I love you Lord.
I love you Lord because you saved my parents even before I was born. You were there when I was a baby alone in hospital. You were there immediately I asked you into my heart and have been there ever since. I love you Lord.
I love you Lord because you first loved me, you accept me as I am. You are steadfast in your love. Even when I fail you, you welcome me back into your fold. Whenever I come to you, you show me the way. O I love you Lord.
I love you Lord because you are freeing me from my fear. You are my saviour, my lover and my most intimate friend. You are my protector, my provider and my healer and you show me the way. I love you Lord.
I love you Lord because you forgive me 77 x 7.
Your patience with me is amazing. You have made me your child and are sanctifying me day by day, changing me from glory to glory.
You are so enjoyable to be with.
You make my life so purposeful, with heaven to come.
O I love you Lord.
O Lord please help me to let down my defences and welcome your love and love you as you deserve.
Lord please help me to be faithful to you, to meet with you and to do your will each day.
O Lord please cover and surround me at all times, and help me to trust. Lord please show me your ways so I don’t waste time following my own.
O Lord please bring a revival of your love across this world that wounded hearts be made whole and joy come instead of mourning.
Amen.
You Are Beautiful was written by a group of guests as a joint psalm of worship at a recent workshop led by Tracy.
